Hempstead is the Class 4 runner-up of the
BEST KEPT VILLAGE for 2006

Great but not fantastic news! - We are Runners-Up this year in the Ruggles Brise trophy of the Best Kept Village competition.

You will all have seen our fabulous sign that has been stationed in the heart of the village since we won this a year ago, but sadly it has now been moved to Stondon Massey who are this years winners in the Ruggles Brise class. Our reward will be certificate which will be mounted in the Village Hall.

We put up a good fight - a great entry form that took hours to complete because the sequence and questions were revised this year, a new map of the essential items of the village, a Clean-Up day to smarten up some key elements of the village such as litter, cleanliness, current signs and posters, ponds, streams etc, but I think in our hearts, we liked having the sign there best of all, so next year will be an all-out effort to return in to Hempstead.

The competition gets stiffer every year, and you will see below that Steeple Bumpstead is rewarded as the best new entry.
