Hempstead Village Church - Helen PhilipHempstead is a small historic village situated seven miles east of Saffron Walden in the north-west corner of Essex. The notorious highwayman Dick Turpin was born in the village public The Bluebell Inn from Church Hill - Joseph Kitchenhouse. William Harvey, the man who discovered the circulation of blood in the human body, and Sir Eliab Harvey, commander of the Temeraire at the battle of Trafalgar, are interred with many members of their family in the Church crypt. WAR MEMORIAL

The Parish Council are considering refurbishing the War Memorial area but are very aware of the sensitivity of the issue. We are therefore asking residents for their views on how we should proceed and for any suggestions you may have. Please Click Here for details.
